Magaly Charbonneau
As the new head of Inovia’s Montreal office, Magaly will continue her focus on early stage investments and support entrepreneurs in all stages of growth. In addition to her role in Montreal, she will support Inovia’s activities in London and San Francisco.
In the past, she has led several investments, including Busbud, TrackTik, RenoRun, and AlayCare, which recently raised a $51 million CAD Series C round from Inovia’s Growth Fund. She also serves on the board of AI research institute Mila and addEnergie. Recently, Inovia announced its own initiative to support women entrepreneurs in tech.

Mia Morisset joined Inovia Capital in Montreal in September 2018 to support Chris Arsenault’s efforts to build the venture-capital ecosystem in Quebec. She is responsible for identifying late-stage investment opportunities and working with the Inovia team and its limited partners. Previously, she worked at PSP Investments and Roland Berger in Montreal. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University.
Simon McGuire joined Inovia Capital in January 2022 after an internship with VU Venture Partners. He also completed internships with RBC Dominion Securities and Mackenzie Investments. Simon holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (HEC Montreal) with a major in Finance and is an Honours graduate. In addition to his investment experience, he is a proud University of Waterloo graduate.
In 2021, Inovia continued to expand its strategy by raising a second $450 million USD growth fund. The firm also launched a new technology SPAC that focused on tech companies. However, the new environment for raising a fund has been very different from the previous two years. Valuations of the portfolio companies are considerably lower than they were in 2021 and earlier.
As a venture capital firm, inovia has many opportunities to invest in Canadian and global companies. Inovia’s recent US$325 million fund has invested in Signal 1, a health startup that uses artificial intelligence to identify vulnerable hospital patients, as well as cybersecurity provider Flare. The firm’s goal is to partner with founders and build global companies. It leverages its operator-led mindset, world-class mentorship, and an extensive network.
For development workloads, Inovia AI relies on IBM Power Systems. This allows the company to meet client demand for AI technology faster. As a result, Inovia AI has become one of the leading big data solution providers in Scandinavia and employs around 55 people in Stockholm. While there are no specific requirements for the company, it’s important to know that IBM’s POWER9 architecture delivers exceptional performance and is perfectly suited to the training of AI models.
